Is a disease in which many cattle are found in the field. Three day sickness is a disease in cattle which is acute, with symptoms of fever. Cases occurring in the field mostly have a high morbidity, but with low death rates.

Etiology

Bovine Ephemeral Fever (BEF) is caused by a virus Rhabdovirus, which is included in the same families with vesicular stomatitis and rabies. There is sources reported that the virus can be transmitted by insects. Although until now there has been found to cause disease or carriers of BEF with certainty, it is probably because the number of samples examined is not enough. Perhaps also because the period of the disease is also relatively short.

Pathogenesis

In the experiment shown the progression of the disease is 2-10 days and mostly patients show symptoms within 2-4 days. Fluorescent antibody studies showed that the virus multiply in the reticulo endothelial cells of lung, spleen and lymph nodes. Virus bound with white blood cells in the blood, although the virus in cell proliferation there is no definite reports.

Clinical symptoms

Symptoms that can always be found from BEF disease is the presence of fever, the temperature rise of 2-4 degrees C normal temperature for a period times1-4 days. Other symptoms are visible, the animal patient was shaking, loss of appetite and drinking, the frequency increased respiration and heart. Sometimes symptoms such as diarrhea or constipation can accompany this disease.

In animals who are in the production, milk production declined sharply. Nasal and eyes, hypersalivation sometimes also be found. Rumen movement to a standstill. Many cases the field accompanied by symptoms of lameness that appears after the fever. The lameness may move from one foot to another. Some people still able to stand, and some patients who otherwise would not be able to stand, so it could only lie down for 2-3 days. While the animals are really not able to stand up event can be up to 1 week, then continues with paresis.

Healing will begin to appear from day 3, with perfect recovery on day 5 after clinical symptoms appear. Suffering less serious nature can be found in the calf, the calf is less than 6 months old. Stud Cattle large and heavy cows suffer most if attacked by BEF. The death rate is usually less than 1% and mostly caused by the facto-secondary factor.

Therapy

Specifically to address the treatment of this disease does not exist. Animal patients must be arranged so that the likelihood of secondary complications minimized. Giving drink to the tool (Drench, etc.) should be avoided, because in the acute phase, patients will experience a miraculous difficulty swallowing.
