The Process of Ruminant Digestive

Ruminant animals such as buffalo, sheep, goats, cows, horses, giraffes, deer, deer are eating plants or animals commonly called herbivores. The animal has a unique character in digesting food, which is a two-step digestion before the food is - right into the stomach. The first is the ingestion of raw food ingredients, then half the animals remove food from the stomach to digest it again and it will chew it again. Ruminant stomach in contrast to animals in general, there are 2 pieces of space. Rumen, the technical term to describe the stomach in adult ruminants.

Process of Ruminant Digestive
Ruminant have digestive system similar to humans or other animals. Consists of the mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, and intestines. The ruminant stomach consists of four parts. This is unique to ruminant animals and are not owned by others. There rumen, reticulum, omasum and abomasum. The size can vary according to the type, age and dietary factors are also ruminants.

Cows, for example, have the teeth as follows:
3 3 0 0 0 0 0 0 Maxilla
C I M P I C P M gear type
3 3 0 4 4 0 3 3 Lower jaw

Note :
I = incisor incisor
C = canine canines
P = premolar premolars
M = molar = molar behind

Judging from the arrangement of the teeth above formula, the formula is there anything that is different from the teeth in general? cattle apparently have no upper incisors or canines. Instead, the ruminants have more teeth. This eases and in accordance with cattle or ruminant food staple to another, is as crude fiber chewers.

Ruminant digestive process is unique because it involves a part that no animals other than ruminants, the rumen. Rumen function itself is a placeholder while the food after the animal is swallowed. So after the food is chewed in the mouth, it will be stored in the rumen which then would happen fermentation of cellulose by cellulase enzymes. After passing through the rumen, the food cycle will continue into the reticulum. In the reticulum is formed into a blob of food that is still rough. Well, after so blobs turns out that there are not directly continue to the next section, but first spit into the mouth to be chewed again. After the process chewing a second time, then the food will continue into the reticulum. After passing through that process, the food cycle continued again to the omasum and abomasum.

Rumen bacteria will produce an enzyme called cellulase in charge of overhauling the cellulose into fatty acids. However, in the acidic abomasum environmental bacteria can not survive, as a result of these bacteria will die, then be digested to be a source of protein for ruminants. Thus, these animals do not require such an essential amino acid in humans. Fatty acids and protein which is the raw material the formation of milk in cows.

Cecum in ruminants is greater than the carnivore cecum. This is because the pet food plant-eating animals a large volume and weight of the digestive process, while the volume of food in small carnivores and gastrointestinal take place quickly.

Intestine in cattle is very long, smooth intestine can reach 4 feet. This is influenced by food which consists mainly of fibers (cellulose) cellulase enzymes produced by these bacteria not only serves to digest cellulose into fatty acids, but also can produce bio-gas in the form of CH4 that can be used as an alternative energy source.
